Lidonil 20mg/ml Injection

Each ml contains 20mg Lidocaine Hydrochloride.

Lidonil 20mg/ml Injection (Anaesthetic)

Lidonil is indicated for epidural, infiltration, and local nerve block anaesthesia, as well as anaesthesia of mucous membranes. Its local anaesthetic effect begins within 2–5 minutes and may last up to 90 minutes. Additionally, lidocaine can be used systemically (extra-label) as an antiarrhythmic agent and analgesic.

The following guidelines are for general reference. Adjust doses for animals weighing less than 5 kg to avoid exceeding the maximum recommended dose.

Epidural Anaesthesia
- Cats/Dogs: 4.4 mg/kg (1 ml per 4.5 kg)

Local and Infiltration Anaesthesia
- For larger areas, dilute with an equal or lesser volume of saline to increase coverage.
- Cats: 2–4 mg/kg subcutaneously (SQ)
- Dogs: 1–5 mg/kg SQ

Superficial Anaesthesia of Mucous Membranes
- Apply a thin layer topically to the area requiring anaesthesia.
- Total dose should not exceed 2–4 mg/kg (or 1 ml per 5–10 kg).

Contraindications
- Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any excipients.
- Avoid use on inflamed or infected tissue.
- Not for use in newborn animals.

Pregnancy and Lactation
- Lidocaine can cross the placental and blood-milk barriers and is excreted in milk. Use only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks in pregnant or lactating animals.

Underlying Conditions
- Use with caution in animals with hepatic or renal disease, atrioventricular (AV) block, or impaired cardiovascular function.

Symptoms and Treatment of Overdose
- Always aspirate before subcutaneous injection to avoid accidental intravascular administration.
- Maximum doses: 4 mg/kg for cats, 8 mg/kg for dogs.
- Overdose or intravascular injection can cause central nervous system and cardiac effects, including vomiting, muscle contractions, hypotension, bradycardia, respiratory paralysis, or cardiac arrest.
- In the event of an overdose, provide appropriate symptomatic treatment.
