Each ml contains:
Activated Charcoal 10.4% (104 mg/ml)
Kaolin 6.25% (62.5mg/ml)
Charcox Plus is used to prevent and reduce the systemic absorption of certain drugs or toxins in cases of gastrointestinal poisoning. Activated charcoal is neither absorbed nor metabolised in the gut. The slurry form is most effective at adsorbing many toxins; however, overall treatment efficacy depends on the severity of toxicity and the animal’s clinical condition.
Remarks : Activated charcoal may be ineffective against certain toxins. Refer to toxicology references for further information.
Administer within 1 hour of toxicant ingestion.
Cats/Dogs: 10–20 ml/kg every 4–8 hours for 24–48 hours via:
- Voluntary consumption (e.g. direct syringe feeding or mixed with food)
- Nasogastric tube
- Orogastric tube
- Do not administer to animals with a decreased gag reflex (e.g. megaoesophagus, CNS depression) without airway protection using an endotracheal tube.
- Avoid use in cases of reduced peristalsis, recent gastrointestinal surgery, gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, and hypernatraemia.
- Rapid administration may induce vomiting and increase the risk of aspiration pneumonia.
- Administer antibiotics parenterally when using Charcox Plus.
- Faeces may appear black when charcoal is excreted.
